Max Payne 3 – More Cynical Noir Action Hero Battling Drug Lords And Fighting The Demons Within!
That’s right, Max is coming back. Now older, bald and with the familiar constipated expression:

Now armed with even better graphics and AI, the third-person shooter promises more of that old visceral John Woo-style slow motion gunplay that so many games have tried and failed to emulate. Procedural physics, real-time modeling of bullet dynamics and meticulously animated muzzle flashes, blood effects and characters all come together in a glorious bullet ballet.
Shout “Say hello to my little friend!” to your heart’s content
Originally slated for release in ’09, it was eventually delayed till early 2012 and from the trailer it appears to be just about ready to be launched. In this instalment, Max is back and he is a bitter, alcoholic, depressed shell of a man forced tragically to protect the women who cross paths with him. Haunted by the past and with no future to speak of, Max has to battle drug cartels and his own inner demons to prevail in a short-lived victory before he (possibly) plunges once again into a rain-and-whiskey-soaked depression.
Basically, nothing has changed.
Unfortunately not a chill pill taking kind of guy.
But isn’t that what made the Max Payne series so playable? Seeing Payne’s brooding depression released in one gratuitous orgy of spraying blood, muzzle flame and twinkling brass just sends tremors of excitement and waves of inner peace through your body in equal measure. The thought of doing all that again for the third time, on a 1600 x 1200 display filled with AI enemies cowering in fear and flinching from real-time bullet physics would make Max himself crack a wry smile.
